Manchester United had to fire European scout Torben Aakjaer recently after allegations that the Dane posted racial anti-immigration slurs to Facebook.


If he did post the comments, and his sacking by the club would indicate that he probably did, then Mr Aakjaer has clearly done a very stupid thing – but he is certainly not the first.


The growth of social media use in football has lead to a directly proportional increase in clubs’ press officers tearing their hair out in exasperation. Here I’ve taken a look back at some of the worst offenders
