Ferguson Social Media Response Called "Unprecedented"

You’ve seen the images of protest and heard the cries for justice, but researchers at Clemson’s Social Media Listening Center say some of the strongest responses to this week’s decision in Ferguson, Missouri, are those that we’ve read online.


“One of the most emotionally charged topics we’ve studied here,” said director, Joe Mazer.


He called them unprecedented. With more than 11 million Ferguson mentions since Monday on Twitter alone, he said they’ve drawn sharply down racial and political lines. At times, they’ve used vulgar language to express outrage or make threats
