These are some dark times, with people feeling both politically and economically disempowered. At times, new forms of connection enabled by the Internet, such as crowfunding and online petitions, seem like encouraging steps toward a higher form of human consciousness that can truly effect positive change. At worst, they are ridiculed as ‘slacktivism,’ with detractors arguing that a minuscule effort produces an equally minuscule result. Perhaps the energies of thousands or even millions of people could be better directed with a central authority that was both ready to listen and able to carry out certain demanded tasks
