TAZEWELL, Va. — Social media has helped the Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office capture over 200 people in the past three years.

“Social media is another tool for us to use,” Harold Heatley, Chief Deputy of the Tazewell County Sheriff’s office said.

By using social media, the sheriff’s office can get awareness out about a criminal.

“We get a possibility of a suspect or a fuzzy picture and we’re not quite sure who it is, we can post that out on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and ask people, do you know who this is, do you know who this might be? Based on the tips that come in we can narrow our search down and quite often we’re pretty successful with being able to identify suspects,” Heatley said.
