Facebook users want to ban the “feeling fat” emoji from the social network, arguing that it makes fun of those who are overweight or have eating disorders.

A petition calling for the chubby smiley to be removed from the site already has more than 12,000 supporters.

The petition was set up by Catherine Weingarten from Endangered Bodies, an organisation that celebrates body shapes of all sizes.

The emoji looks much like all of the others used on the site in that it’s yellow and round, but has flushed cheeks and a double chin.
