Ahead of their first concert at the Royal Albert Hall, Swedish country music duo First Aid Kit are telling a handful of teenage girls about their path into the industry. It’s amusing to hear sisters Johanna (23) and Klara Söderberg (21) explain the importance of now-dated social network Myspace to their pupils: “it was as big as Facebook”.

Klara was 14 when she and Johanna, then 16, started to upload their songs onto Myspace, networking with members of the Swedish music industry online on what was then a feverishly popular website, responsible for boosting the careers of Arctic Monkeys and Lily Allen.

The Söderberg sisters were unique among their school friends for “becoming obsessed with” the likes of Bright Eyes (who started Klara’s journey into country and folk music), The Carter Family and Gram Parsons. But when they covered Fleet Foxes’ Tiger Mountain Peasant Song in 2008, the American band shared it on their Myspace page and overnight hundreds of thousands of people were introduced to First Aid Kit.
